The Creativity Response - It's Yours, Own It

From the infamous John Cleese...

"Creativity is not a talent. It is a way of operating."

Many of us live our life deeply in touch with our creativity as it seems to be a natural and intregal part of who we are. At another viewpoint are people who live in a world where creativity does not have so much of a presence.

Sometimes being immersed on one side or the other dims the awareness of the opposite perspective. I myself am guilty of this as I tend to forget that not all people have experienced the powerful and supportive nature that the act of being creative brings to ones personal healing, growth and evolvement.

The beauty of creativity being seen as "a way of operating" is that it becomes understood as something that each and everyone of us can access at any time we choose. No longer is creativity reserved for the select crowd society deems talented.

It's yours. Own it!.

What can creativity do for you?

Choosing the creative response is vital to our wellbeing because our personal view of the world is based on both our inner and outer experiences. Physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects combine to form our own unique perspectives.

Creativity is a vehicle for navigating the channels between the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of yourself.

By opening up these pathways of communications you are raising your conscious awareness of how each one of the four influences the other and thus shapes your life.

As the channels strengthen, a sense of inner balance is achieved for now each is working to support you by supporting each other.

As an example, no longer are your emotions running your life without equal input of your thoughts, spirit and physical being. You now have choices to see how the rest of you is responding and which might serve you best at the moment.

Accessing your creativity connects you to yourself, your higher self. You are now working from the place of being whole. When you operate from wholeness you have the power to overcome any obstacle.

Why do we get throw off balance and what can we do about it?

When our usual tried and true modes of communication fail to match our needs, (ie. when words are not enough), it is creativity that allows for other avenues of expression, connection, release,

insight and growth.

The dictionary states of creativity,

"...the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc"

Take the first part and think about that for a moment, "the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules patterns relationships or the like."

Can you think of a situation where, in hindsight, a different perspective might have served to better the outcome? Powerful emotions can put your thoughts in a jumble, blocking verbal channels as a release. This can lead to feeling vulnerable and stressed out.

What do you do? Left unattended these emotions can run havoc in your life. Similiar results occur if they are ignored, stuffed or even just lightly acknowledged, and yet, these are well travelled paths.

It is said that the only way out is through. Immersing in the act of creating in different medium, creates the opportunity for you to transcend and look at the issue thru a different lens. Not every feeling has a word to describe it. Some have shapes, colors, movement, sound. Dont deny the chance to acknowledge these connections. We are much more than just verbal beings. Acknowledge with your whole self.

The second part of the dictionary meaning..."create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc"

Ah, what a gift. Here is something that allows you to experience a difficult situation from new and different (maybe safer) perspectives, while it also opens the opportunity for you to move forward by creating new more positive influences.

Knowing that you have access to creativity and choosing to utilize it, is one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself. Whether you choose to paint, dance, sing, garden, build sandcastles or sculpt shrubbery (I say in my best Monty Phython voice), it does not matter.

The product of your creativity is not the focus. The process is, therefor what the end product looks like is irrelevant and has no effect on creativity's power to support and shift. Make a conscious effort to embrace creativity into your daily life and let me know what happens.

Enjoy your journey,
